Hello!
My name is Corrine McGinnis and I am proud to say I’m the Principal of Santiam Elementary School.
Now in my second year as an administrator and resident of the Mill City Community, I can honestly say that I love living and working in “the canyon.” Originally born and raised in a rural community on the southern Oregon coast, I first visited this area as a student at Linn Benton Community College. I immediately fell in love with the landscape and beauty that we are so privileged to call home. As a river enthusiast who kayaks, rafts, camps and treks into the mountains, I look forward to many adventures here and building lifelong memories with my two daughters in the years to come.
Since graduating from Pacific Union College, in Angwin, CA, I have pursued my passion for education for over 18 years. I have worked in special education, alternative education, secondary education, elementary school leadership and collegiate level collaboration. Those experiences have helped me grow as both an educator and individual. In 2009, I returned to teach high school English in the same classroom where I once learned to write essays. I then earned my Masters degree in 2013 so I could provide dual credit college courses to high school students for free. I can honestly say that there is nothing more fulfilling than giving back to a community that once helped shape and support you. And, it is that community spirit that drew me to Santiam.
As an administrator and lifelong learner, I value and support the teachers and staff who daily serve your students. Santiam Elementary has a dedicated group of educators focused on helping your children learn and grow. To ensure that we continue to live out our motto of standing strong together, this year’s focus will be on meeting students where they are to individualize instruction, engage struggling learners, support high achieving students, and improve reading, writing and math skills. I have no doubt that it is going to be a GREAT year!
As a former teacher, educational leader, and humanist, I firmly believe that creative thinking is the answer to most of life’s obstacles. I long to see all students lead healthy, happy lives with the intelligence and fortitude to turn daily challenges into lifelong victories. As this new school year begins, I look forward to working with community members, educators, parents, students, and staff as we stand together, teaching students to never give up as they find their path to a bright and fulfilling future.
